Known for several iconic roles such as 'Munshiji' of the Srk-Salman Khan-starrer Karan Arjun, and the adorable patriarch Anand Mathur in the 90s hit sitcom Hum Paanch, Saraf has been the driving force behind many evergreen roles. Even on an international stage like the Cannes Film Festival, he proudly carried the essence of Maharashtra through his attire, appearing in a classic bandhgala ensemble. Known for his versatile acting range and impeccable comic timing, Saraf is known as Mahanayak, Ashok Samrat or ‘Mama’ in the Marathi industry. Saraf is a well-known name in Bollywood too. Some of his popular Hindi films include- Karan Arjun, Yes Boss, Singham etc. In an interview with ETimes, the veteran actor once stated that he used to work at a bank. He worked as a banker even after he made his cinematic debut with the 1960 film Janaki. In 2025, he was honoured with the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award in India.
