The Panambur police acted swiftly to rescue a farmer from Channapatna in Hassan district from ending his life by jumping into the Phalguni river from Kuloor bridge on May 22.In a press note, the police said the farmer was facing health issues and financial problems. He left home on the morning of May 22 and reached Mangaluru. When his family called him and asked him to return, he said he would end his life and did not disclose his location.The family later learnt he was in Panambur. They contacted a retired police officer, who alerted Panambur Police Inspector Saleem Abbas and sought his help.The Panambur police contacted the farmer and counselled him against ending his life, but he insisted on taking the extreme step.
