PARIS, May 24. /TASS/. French President Emmanuel Macron called on his Belarusian counterpart, Alexander Lukashenko, to refrain from dragging Minsk into the Ukrainian conflict and take measures to improve his country’s relations with the European Union, the AFP agency said after their phone call, citing a source in the French leader’s administration.
"[The French president] highlighted the risks Belarus will face if dragged into the war in Ukraine. He also called on Lukashenko to take necessary measures to improve relations between Belarus and Europe," the source said.
The Pul Pervogo Telegram channel close to the Belarusian president’s press service said earlier in the day that Lukashenko has spoken over the phone with Macron. According to it, the call was initiated by the French side. The two presidents discussed regional problems and bilateral relations. Their previous call took place on February 26, 2022.
