TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia, along with 17 other countries, strongly condemned the "illegal and unacceptable" move by Somaliland to open an embassy in the Israeli-occupied city of Jerusalem."This constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and relevant international resolutions, and represents a direct infringement on the legal and historical status of occupied Jerusalem," the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, May 24, 2026.The condemnation was echoed by the foreign ministers of Indonesia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, Turkey, Pakistan, Djibouti, Somalia, Palestine, Oman, Sudan, Yemen, Lebanon, Mauritania, Algeria, Bangladesh, and Kuwait.In a joint statement, the foreign ministers reiterated their rejection of any unilateral measures aimed at strengthening the illegal reality in occupied Jerusalem or legitimizing any entity or arrangement that contravenes international law and relevant UN resolutions."They reiterate that East Jerusalem has been occupied Palestinian territory since 1967, and that any measures intended to alter its legal and historical status are null and void and without legal effect," the statement read.The foreign ministers also emphasized their full support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, and their firm rejection of unilateral actions that "undermine the unity of Somali territory or infringe upon its sovereignty."The condemnation came after Somaliland declared its plan to open an embassy in Jerusalem.
