Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ireti Kingibe, has alleged that she was violently assaulted and briefly held hostage by suspected political thugs during a disruption at the African Democratic Congress (ADC) State Secretariat in Gudu, Abuja.

In a press statement issued late Saturday evening, Kingibe described the incident as “a shocking, barbaric, and deeply unprovoked act of political thuggery and violence” targeted at herself, party officials and a female House of Representatives aspirant.

The senator said the incident occurred around 3 p.m. on May 21, 2026, while she was at the ADC state secretariat in her official capacity to monitor the distribution of materials for the party’s National Assembly primary elections.

According to her, members of the primary election committee and several House of Representatives aspirants were present during what she described as a peaceful meeting.
