Cornelia Mupenda of the Fireballs was once again a standout in defence as the champions doused the Falmes at Ellis Park Arena on Saturday night.
Defending champions the Gauteng Golden Fireballs brilliantly avenged their earlier one-point defeat to the North West Flames — sweeping their regional rivals aside 58–28 in Telkom Netball League Power Week 2 action at the Ellis Park Arena in Johannesburg on Saturday night.
The clinical attacking partnership between goal attack Nonsikelelo “Ntsiki” Mazibuko and goal shooter Tinita van Dyk proved entirely decisive as the Fireballs edged a highly competitive opening quarter 16–10. From there, the defending champions tightened their tactical grip on the contest.
The second quarter turned into a complete blowout as Dr Elsje Jordaan’s side imposed themselves physically and defensively — opening up a commanding 32–16 half-time lead before continuing their ruthless dominance after the break.
Although the overall intensity dipped briefly at the start of the fourth quarter, the Fireballs remained firmly in control of the court and eventually coasted to a thoroughly deserved 30-goal victory.
