TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — The local government of Oslob town in Cebu has denied reports circulating online claiming that whale sharks, locally known as “butanding,” have disappeared from the town’s famous whale shark interaction area.

The clarification came after several social media posts and videos on Thursday, May 21, showed tourists waiting for hours without seeing a single whale shark during the scheduled interaction period.

The whale sharks are a major tourism draw for Oslob.
