The controversy erupted after the emergence of Oyo South Senator, Sarafadeen Alli, as the winner of the exercise with 578,143 votes. Senator Abdulfatai Omotayo Buhari reportedly polled 37,265 votes, while Adelabu secured 19,193 votes.

A fresh crisis has rocked the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following allegations by loyalists of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, that the party’s governorship primary election and membership exercise were marred by widespread rigging, voter suppression and inflated figures.

However, members of Adelabu’s camp have rejected the credibility of the outcome, insisting that the figures announced by the party do not reflect political realities in Oyo State.

Party insiders questioned how the APC could suddenly produce nearly 600,000 votes in an internal exercise when the party’s actual electoral strength in recent general elections had consistently ranged between 300,000 and 400,000 votes.
