MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) clarified on Saturday that a controversial proposal requiring permits for advertisements — including those posted online — was merely an internal draft and would not be enforced.

This came after the proposal, which would have required advertisers to secure permits 30 working days before publication, drew widespread backlash online and prompted criticism from Sen. Bam Aquino IV.

“The DTI assures the public and the business community that this internal draft does not reflect current policy direction and will not be finalized or enforced,” the department said in a statement posted on social media.
