The action with Suit No: NICN/ABJ/399/2025, filed by Maj. General Danjuma Hamisu Alli-Keffi, alleges a grave violation of his constitutional rights by the Nigerian Army and the Chief of Army Staff.

The National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN), Abuja Division is set to deliver a ruling on whether it has the jurisdiction to hear a fundamental rights suit brought by a retired Major General against the Nigerian Army and six other defendants, after both sides presented arguments on Thursday, May 21, 2026.

The action with Suit No: NICN/ABJ/399/2025, filed by Maj. General Danjuma Hamisu Alli-Keffi, alleges a grave violation of his constitutional rights by the Nigerian Army and the Chief of Army Staff.

According to the claimant, he was unlawfully arrested and held in detention for 64 days, without access to family, legal counsel, or the constitutional safeguards to which he was entitled without reasonable cause, before being compulsorily retired from service without a fair hearing or court martial.

The matter came up Thursday, 21 May 2026 before the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) for the hearing of Notices of Preliminary Objection filed separately by the 1st to 5th defendants (Nigerian Army et. al.) and the 6th defendant (Minister of Defence), both of which challenged the competence of the court to entertain the suit.
