Twenty-nine volcanic earthquakes were recorded to have occurred at Mayon Volcano in Albay on Friday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said Saturday.The number includes 15 volcanic tremors lasting from three to 53 minutes long, PHIVOLCS said in its bulletin. A total of 325 rockfalls were also recorded and one pyroclastic density current (PDC) signal was observed.Mayon Volcano continues to have lava effusion with lava flows reported on the Basud (3.8 km), Bonga (3.2 km), and Mi-isi (1.7 km) gullies.Minor strombolian activity was also reported.A crater glow continues to be fairly visible to the naked eye, PHIVOLCS said.Meanwhile, 2,615 tonnes of sulfur dioxide were emitted by the volcano on Friday.Moderate plumes rising up to 500 meters above the crater were observed. These drifted in the west-southwest and west-northwest drift.Mayon Volcano continues to be under Alert Level 3 (Intensified Unrest/Magmatic Unrest), according to PHIVOLCS.The agency reiterated that entry into the six-km radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) and flying aircraft close to the volcano should not be allowed.PHIVOLCS said Mayon Volcano poses possible hazards such as:rockfalls or landslides or avalanches; ballistic fragments; lava flows and lava fountaining; PDCs; moderate-sized explosions; and lahars during heavy and prolonged rainfall.—KG, GMA News
