The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture has empowered and trained some youths in Oyo State in the cultivation of horticultural crops, cassava processing and value addition to catfish.
The institute said beyond its core mandate of agricultural research, the training and input support were aimed at helping young people contribute to food security, job creation and economic growth.
The initiative, implemented through its Youth in Agribusiness Project, is sponsored by the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Speaking during the graduation of some youths trained in horticultural crop production in partnership with International Fertilizer Development Center-HortiNigeria at its headquarters in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Thursday, the YAS Project Coordinator, Adebayo Awotodunbo, said the programme was designed to equip youths with technical and business skills while supporting them with agricultural inputs to establish sustainable agribusinesses.
He said about 50 participants were trained under the partnership, adding that 31 beneficiaries were selected for input support based on their performance during the business incubation programme.
