Kettle Cuisine has issued a recall of its Whole Foods Market Kitchen Minestrone Soup over a potential health risk to customers.“The recall was initiated after it was discovered in-store that a single cup of soup was found to contain the incorrect product and that the soup in the cup contained Shrimp,” the FDA said in a statement. “People who have allergies to Crustacean Shellfish (Shrimp) run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product,” the recall notice continued.The recalled soup is packaged in 24-oz clear plastic containers and sold in stores and online through the Whole Foods and Amazon websites.Affected products were distributed in Alabama, Connecticut, Washington D.C., Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Minnesota, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. Customers are instructed to check for the Lot Code: 1762181 and Use By Date of 05/27/26 printed at the top of the cup’s rim, as well as UPC identifier of 099482502065 on the back label. People with shrimp allergies will likely develop hives, itchy skin, swelling of the lips or tongue and stomach upset if they’ve accidentally consumed the seafood, according to the Mayo Clinic. They are advised to seek medical attention immediately if they develop severe, life-threatening reactions. Last week, noodle packages sold nationwide at the grocery chain were recalled over fears that the products may cause life-threatening reactions in those with peanut allergies.Fly By Jing announced that it was recalling its Creamy Sesame Noodles because the products may have been exposed to cross-contact from peanuts.The noodles were sold in single packs and four-packs at Whole Foods, the online membership-based Thrive Market, and on Fly By Jing’s website.Both crustacean shellfish and peanut allergies are among the top nine major food allergens in the U.S., affecting approximately 2 and 1.8 percent of the population, respectively.
