The diplomatic advisor to the President of the United Arab Emirates announced that any potential agreement between Iran and the United States must address “root issues” to prevent the formation of new crises in the future.
In his remarks, Anwar Gargash emphasized that if a political solution is not properly designed, it could lay the groundwork for fresh complications and tensions in the region. He also warned that the onset of a new round of conflict between Iran and the U.S. would make the region’s security situation even more complex.
Referring to the status of the Strait of Hormuz, he stated that any modification to the situation of this strategic waterway would carry serious consequences for the region and even Europe, describing any attempt to exert control over it as a “dangerous precedent.”
Gargash further claimed that the authorities of the Islamic Republic have missed numerous opportunities over the past years to reach an agreement, stating that he assesses the probability of success in negotiations between Iran and the U.S. as “fifty-fifty.”
He also stressed that Iran’s nuclear program has now become the primary security concern for the UAE, and that his country has concluded that Iran “possesses the capability to utilize any weapon at its disposal.” In another part of his statement, the Emirati official urged European nations not to view the security of the Strait of Hormuz as a distant issue, but rather as an integral part of their own energy security and trade.
