OPINION: Have dating apps ruined the experience of falling in love for New Zealanders? A new survey has just found that more than four in ten (42%) Kiwi singles are finding dating either “frustrating” or "exhausting".

That’s compared with just 9% of respondents who find it exciting, according to data from more than 400 singles released last week by matchmaking service Compatico.

So what’s turned dating from something flirty and suspenseful into a chore? With more than three quarters of respondents (77%) saying that not meeting the right people is their biggest challenge, could it be that we’re actually becoming too picky?

Money is part of what makes someone “right” for some people. Thirteen percent of singles said they wouldn’t be able to date someone with significantly less money or fewer assets than them, and 67% would prefer someone who’s in a similar financial position but don’t see it as a deal breaker.
