Lithuania’s Prosecutor General’s Office said on Friday it is investigating an illegal breach of information systems and related cybercrime.
The pre-trial investigation was launched following reports of potentially illegal actions by third parties within state-managed data registries. It is suspected that logins and attempts to access the State Enterprise Centre of Registers systems may have originated from abroad, using systems administered by other institutions.
According to the prosecutors, evidence suggests that more than 600,000 registry records may have been illegally copied. The primary targets are believed to be the Real Estate Register and the Register of Legal Entities, which provide data as a paid service.
The prosecution said that, based on expert assessment of the data's nature, there are currently no specific digital security recommendations for individuals or legal entities.
The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Lithuanian Criminal Police Bureau.
