Oslo is calling to include the proposed mechanism into the EEA agreement

Norway wants to be included in discussions regarding the EU’s new crisis mechanism for quickly transporting troops from one side of Europe to the other, the country’s transport minister said on Friday, stressing it is of strategic importance.

The EU is currently working on a new legislation to ensure that, in the event of a military conflict on the EU’s borders, member states can transport military equipment and personnel quickly across the bloc.

The European Commission proposed in its military mobility package to forgo military permits and allow for military convoys to cross the continent in case of emergency. Such an emergency mechanism could be activated by the Council within 48 hours.

Norway requested to be involved in multiple bilateral meetings at the beginning of May, the minister added.
