Two food vloggers recently took a trip to a riverside Wetherspoons to sample the menu - including one who was trying the food for the first time, having "never trusted" it15:26, 22 May 2026A man who sampled Wetherspoons food for the first time has revealed his verdict on the fish and chips after confessing he was initially "worried". As food vloggers, you'd think Joe and Naz would be well-versed in the bargain staples of the legendary pub chain - and it's not that they're strangers to it.Joe revealed that, prior to their visit to a riverside Wetherspoons in Putney overlooking the Thames in southwest London, he'd been to 15 of the budget chain's pubs over recent months.Naz has been to Wetherspoons numerous times previously but confessed he'd "never trusted the food". The duo decided to change this, recording their visit for their YouTube channel, Joe&Naz.Joe acknowledged that he'd been "converted" and that Wetherspoons was "better" than he'd anticipated. In fact, he suggested that Naz might well be "surprised" by the pub's offerings. With that in mind, the duo headed into the "flash" pub, The Rocket, and quickly found a table. Joe went for the Cheese Meltdown burger, which comes loaded with American-style cheese plus Emmental and a cheddar cheese sauce.Meanwhile, Naz went for a traditional pub favourite, fish and chips with peas. Joe's meal set him back £13, while the latter totalled £14. They also got complimentary drinks with their order. When the food turned up, Joe remarked on the generous portion size, saying in the video:: "This plate's actually quite conservative. Sort of plate you might have in your house. And the food, there's a lot of it."Huge burger. Not just chips. Onion rings as well. That's all included. Wow, it's a lot of food."Naz said: "So, here's my fish and chips. I've actually got garden peas, not mushy peas. I think that's our mistake. But Joe, have you ever seen a fish that shape?"He went on to comment further on the shape and was struck by the size: "It's got legs. It's a chicken. Anyway, good portion size."After they seasoned their meals, the pair tucked into the burger. Joe described it as "dry", but acknowledged that it was "okay" and that he'd "had worse". Naz added that the chips were "okay", not "particularly crispy", but "nice enough".Joe said he enjoyed the chips and they were "better than the burger", observing that the bun had a "very soft, sweet flavour". They then shifted their focus to the fish.A seemingly surprised Naz took a bite and said: "Fish tastes really good, actually. I was worried that it might not be as fresh as I'd like it, but it tastes really fresh."Joe also remarked that it was "light", adding: "Even though the whole thing looks really big and heavy, it's really light. It just sort of melts in your mouth. And there's a decent amount of fish in there."Naz said: "It's a really decent fish. Nice big portion and actually tastes really good. I'm really, actually quite impressed with that."Wrapping up his verdict, Naz revealed he had originally anticipated giving the food a five or below. While he admitted there was nothing "particularly memorable" about his meal aside from the value for money, he ultimately awarded it a respectable seven out of ten.Article continues belowHe rated the burger and chips a six/6.5. Joe, meanwhile, was in agreement with his pal's verdict, giving the fish and chips a seven and the burger a six.
