By now we’ve seen tonnes of stories — oh look, there’s another one — about how the price of jet fuel has led to price escalations and flight cancellations, forcing people to rethink their travel plans. For a while, I was grinning smugly: for more than a decade, my family’s vacations have been road trips. Over the years, we’ve hit both oceans and every one of the great lakes on four wheels. No need to scramble because of airlines!
