MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian has assured the public that he is ready to assume the role of Senate president if ever his colleagues ask him and vote for him, as rumors about leadership changes in the upper chamber of Congress persist.
Gatchalian, in an interview on Friday, was initially reluctant to discuss a possible Senate leadership change — the second in less than a month — as he believes that senators should return to their jobs.
But when asked if he is ready to head the chamber, Gatchalian said his 10 years of experience have prepared him for any eventuality.
“We have been in the Senate for 10 years, we have been elected chairman of the economic affairs committee, energy committee, basic education committee, ways and means which is somewhat complicated, and most-recently the committee on finance,” the senator told DZMM in an interview.
