New Cancer Research UK figures showing cases of the deadliest form of skin cancer have reached record highs are a timely reminder to stay sun-smart ahead of the Spring Bank Holiday weekend.
For the first time, melanoma cases in the UK have risen above 20,000 with 20,980 people diagnosed in 2022, according to the latest data from the charity.
The Met Office has forecast the first notable heatwave of the year this weekend, with temperatures set to reach 32–33°C in parts of southern and central England and at least 28–30°C elsewhere.
A yellow heat health alert was issued by the UK Health Security Agency for the East Midlands, East of England, London, West Midlands and the South East from Friday 22 May until 5pm on 25 May.
