France is using its dialogue with China to urge Beijing to press Moscow to end its war against Ukraine, Pascal Confavreux, spokesperson for France’s Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, said during a press briefing on Thursday. Confavreux said Russia’s isolation since the full-scale invasion had deepened its dependence on Beijing.JOIN US ON TELEGRAMFollow our coverage of the war on the @Kyivpost_official. “What we observe are extremely biased, unbalanced relations between Russia and China, all the more so after Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, which cut Russia off from many of its partners, particularly in the energy and economic sectors,” he said. The spokesperson said Beijing’s ties with Moscow give France a channel to press for an end to the war. “We are obviously in constant dialogue with China, particularly to convey messages on the war in Ukraine. This channel allows us to ask China to use its privileged relationship with Moscow to call for an end to this aggression,” Confavreux added. France points to new G7 priorities Confavreux also linked France’s response to closer Russia-China cooperation with its G7 presidency, saying Paris is focused on addressing major global imbalances, especially economic ones. He said this priority has grown more urgent as global security tensions rise. Asked whether Paris could still count on Washington’s support, Confavreux said France maintains dialogue with both the US and China, while emphasizing the need for Europe to define its own approach.
