The company website states that the metal in question was stainless steel, and that it had issued a voluntary recall after “finding a damaged piece of equipment that had the potential to result in a metal fragment or fragments in the specific flavors and best by dates of our recall.”The company said it had paused production to complete an “overhaul of the production line to repair the equipment and resolve the source of the potential contamination.”“Production will only resume after we thoroughly review the work performed and are satisfied with the corrections,” the press release states, adding that no metal fragments had been reported in the ice cream at the time of the announcement. Straus Family Creamery recommends that customers who have purchased the recalled product fill out a form on the company’s website here to request a voucher or to redeem a replacement at their local retailer.
