The trend continues — another Chinese automaker finds factory space in Europe to build electric cars there.
Ford is reportedly on the verge of selling factory space in Spain to Chinese automotive giant Geely. This would be the first place in Europe where Geely would build cars.
The factory space in question is the Body 3 assembly hall in Ford’s Valencia factory where the company previously built the Mondeo, Galaxy, and S-Max. The only model being built in the factory right now is the Ford Kuga, and that certainly isn’t using up the whole 300,000 vehicle annual production capacity of the factory.
Geely would reportedly start with the Galaxy EX2 compact electric crossover, the best selling car in China last year (where it’s named the Galaxy Xingyuan). The company would also look to build other BEVs and plugin hybrids there based on the GEA platform.
