New guidance has been published that sets out the way trans people should be treated by businesses, hospitals and sporting bodies.

The updated code follows the Supreme Court ruling last year which said the words “woman” and “sex” in the Equality Act 2010 refer to a biological woman and biological sex.

That case was brought by feminist campaigners against Scottish ministers.

The new government code is aimed at guiding businesses and other organisations, such as hospitals, on how they can follow equality law, including in provision of single and separate-sex services such as toilets and changing rooms.
