Moderate to heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds lashed parts of Bengaluru on Thursday, leading to power outages, flooding and delays in metro services across parts of the city.“Due to heavy rain and storm conditions, metro services across all lines are experiencing delays,” Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) said following the rains. Metro services on Thursday evening faced brief disruption on the Purple Line (Challaghatta–Whitefield (Kadugodi) after small metal sheets were blown onto the tracks due to heavy rain and strong winds.According to officials, the incident led to delays of around 15–20 minutes between 6.45 pm and 7.45 pm. Speaking to The Hindu, BMRCL Chief Public Relations Officer B.L. Yeshwanth Chavan said a small metal object from a nearby building fell on the track amid adverse weather conditions, affecting train movement temporarily. He clarified that there were no major safety concerns or prolonged disruptions. However, the delay triggered commuter complaints on social media with many reporting overcrowding at stations and longer waiting times across the corridor.Another official said that more than one such incident may have occurred, with reports of metal sheets falling between Baiyappanahalli and Benniganahalli stations, and a separate instance near Hoodi station. In a post on X at 6.56 pm, BMRCL said that services across routes were affected due to heavy winds and rain, adding that passenger safety remained the top priority. While several areas did not receive rainfall and only experienced heavy winds, parts of the city that witnessed showers reported flooding and traffic disruptions. As per the city traffic police, tree-fall incidents leading to slow-moving traffic were reported near Swami Vivekananda Road Metro Station towards CMH Hospital, and on the stretch from the Banaswadi-Horamavu underpass towards Kalyan Nagar.Flooding was reported on multiple stretches, including Windsor Manor Bridge towards Palace Cross, both sides of Mysuru Road towards Veterinary Junction, Brigade Road towards Opera Junction, Majestic and Lulu Mall towards Khode Junction, Anil Kumble Circle towards Queens Junction, Pai Layout towards the city, Garudacharpalya towards the city, Sultanpet towards Sultanpet Cross, Lalbagh East Gate towards Lalbagh Main Gate, and SJP Road towards Town Hall.
