Heavy overnight rain accompanied by thunder and gusty winds on Friday night lashed Bengaluru, uprooting at least seven trees and snapping 19 branches across the city.
Several areas, including HSR Layout, Ulsoor, Rainbow Layout, were among the worst-affected, while Electronics City, Indiranagar, S.G. Palya, Suranjandas Road and stretches along the Outer Ring Road witnessed heavy flooding.
According to data by the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), most complaints of fallen trees and branches came from Bengaluru West and South zones, including Rajajinagar, Vijayanagar, and Padmanabhanagar. All tree-fall complaints and 18 of the 19 branch-related complaints were cleared by Saturday morning.
Data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) shows that the city recorded 68.3 mm of rainfall as of 8.30 a.m. on Saturday, while HAL Airport received 22.3 mm and Kempegowda International Airport received 20.8 mm.
