President Bola Tinubu has said that powerful exchange rate and oil subsidy cabals are wishing him dead over the economic reforms introduced by his administration since assuming office in 2023, while also insisting that he would not allow the naira to become “too strong” in a manner that could destabilise the economy.

Tinubu’s position was conveyed on Wednesday in Lagos during the launch of the book, “The NADECO Story,” written by Chief Ayo Opadokun, alongside the presentation of awards to key figures involved in Nigeria’s democratic struggle under the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO).

Representing the President at the event, former Ogun State governor, Olusegun Osoba, said Tinubu acknowledged that some interests affected by the removal of multiple exchange rates and fuel subsidies were actively unhappy with his administration.

According to Osoba, Tinubu said: “As for security, he says, I should let you know, that he is aware that there is a deliberate attempt to disrupt the peace of this country by people whom he knew he had offended by cancelling multiple exchange rates and by cancelling oil subsidies."
