Greek-Australian business Born To Bake Greek has been named Australia’s Best Cake Shop and Patisserie at the 2026 Australian Small Business Champion Awards, marking a significant milestone for the family-run bakery founded in 2019.
According to the Neos Kosmos news outlet, owners Dora and Angelo Lampros said the recognition reflects not only business success but also the preservation of Greek culture in Australia. They described the award as a tribute to family, community and customers who supported the bakery through its rapid growth and the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Angelo Lampros, a pastry chef with more than 30 years of experience who migrated from Athens in 2004, has focused on maintaining traditional Greek recipes and techniques. Dora Lampros said the bakery was built around creating a welcoming environment where customers feel like part of an extended family, drawing on recipes inspired by her mother.
Since opening in Sydney’s Eastlakes suburb, Born To Bake Greek has become known for traditional pastries and desserts including spanakopita, baklava, galaktoboureko and tsoureki, alongside handmade cakes.
The business has previously received multiple local awards, including Business of the Year, and has become a recognised part of Sydney’s Greek diaspora food scene.
