Energy Minister Iva Petrova announced a sweeping overhaul at the Bulgarian Energy Holding, confirming that the entire management of BEH is being dismissed and replaced as the government launches a broad strategic review of the energy sector. During her first public briefing as minister, Petrova said the ministry had already identified serious delays in reforms, stalled investments, and risks that Bulgaria could lose more than 1 billion euros in European funding because of missed deadlines and unfulfilled commitments.
“I am dismissing the BEH management and appointing a new management team,” Petrova stated, adding that the goal is to improve “efficiency and transparency” in the work of the state energy holding. The new leadership team will include Andrey Zhivkov, Ilza Chinkova, Ivo Todorov, Petar Angelov and Vasil Vassilev.
The minister explained that one of her first actions after taking office was to order a comprehensive assessment of the sector’s condition. According to her, the review uncovered major setbacks in reforms tied to the Recovery and Resilience Plan, as well as delays in key infrastructure and modernization projects. Petrova warned that the problems were serious enough to jeopardize large amounts of European financing.
