A brand new version of Poirot is being plotted with filming set to start this Summer for the BBC project12:13, 21 May 2026Updated 12:15, 21 May 2026The self-proclaimed “greatest detective in the world ” is about to get a new look - as Poirot is returning to the small screen on the BBC. Just over a decade after the last adaption finished on ITV, plans are well underway for a major television series.‌According to industry magazine Deadline, the BBC are working on the Agatha Christie project about the fictional Belgian detective. They believe there is a serious commitment to make multiple episodes and up to three series of the new Poirot.‌Previously Christie's Poirot, which starred David Suchet, was a mainstay on ITV for many years, with the mystery drama airing from 1989 to 2013.‌And over the years the likes of Albert Finney, Sir Peter Ustinov, Sir Kenneth Branagh, John Malkovich, Alfred Molina and Peter Dinklage have all taken on the role in various film, TV and audio versions.The actor playing Poirot this time around has not been named but filming is expected to start in the Summer in Liverpool and the north-west of England.‌Poirot appeared in 33 novels and 51 short stories for Christie, giving the BBC and makers Mammoth productions plenty of material to work with. Netflix recently streamed Christie story Seven Dials, starring Helena Bonham Carter and Mia McKenna Bruce.The BBC have declined to comment on the reports but Mammoth have made other big series before like Poldark and Endeavour for the small screen.‌When he bowed out of the role in November 2013, Suchet was emotional having player Poirot for almost 25 years. He said at the time: “My emotions today are extraordinary, they really are like a yo yo going up and down.“It’s an odd thing because I didn’t expect it, so I didn’t know how to prepare for it. It’s grieving. I’m saying goodbye to a character I’ve been and have got to know over 25 years… it’s goodbye to a best friend as an actor, as someone I’ve got to know.”After performing the stories in the final episode he shocked viewers as he turned murderer, taking the life of a psychopath in order to protect others, before writing an apparent suicide note and being found dead in bed.Article continues belowLike this story?
