A series of drone incursions into the Baltic states has raised fears of a direct clash between Nato countries and Russia, with the Kremlin accusing Ukraine of using the military alliance’s airspace to launch attacks.
Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia have been drawn closer to the fighting as the drone war between their near-neighbours has escalated, with regular incidents of projectiles straying into their territory.
On Wednesday, a drone alert shut down the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius, with the country’s leaders sent to air raid shelters. The day before, Nato planes shot down a drone over Estonia for the first time.
And last week, the government of Latvia collapsed following a row over its handling of drone incursions.
