Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Parliament), claimed that the United States is seeking to launch a new round of war against Iran and asserted that Washington must be disabused of any hope that Tehran will surrender.

In a newly released audio recording published by Iranian media on Wednesday, May 20, Qalibaf referenced the current ceasefire between Iran and the U.S., stating: “The overt and covert movements of the enemy demonstrate that, parallel to economic and political pressures, the enemy has not abandoned its military objectives and is pursuing a new round of war and a new adventure.”

This marks the third audio message released by Qalibaf since the implementation of the ceasefire between Iran and the United States. In this message, he pointed to the political climate surrounding U.S. President Donald Trump as one of the influential factors driving Washington’s decision-making regarding Iran.

On Monday, Donald Trump announced that the U.S. military was scheduled to launch strikes against Iran on Tuesday, but he ordered the cancellation of the operation at the request of several regional countries and to reach an agreement to end the war.

The U.S. President further warned on Tuesday that Iran has only a few days left to reach a deal; otherwise, it could face another “major blow.”
