Ľubica Rošková receives suspended sentence after claims farmland subsidies were paid for an airport, car park and football pitches.
The Supreme Court has convicted former Smer MP Ľubica Rošková over the fraudulent use of European Union agricultural subsidies, handing her a suspended prison sentence after legal changes reduced the potential penalty.
Rošková, 71, was found guilty of damaging the financial interests of the European Union and subsidy fraud. The court sentenced her to two years in prison, suspended for three years, and imposed a €10,000 fine. If unpaid, the fine can be converted into a one-year prison term, according to Slovak media reports.
She was also barred from applying for EU funds during the probation period and placed under probation supervision.
Prosecutors said Rošková’s company, Agro Porúbka, improperly received almost €152,000 in subsidies from Slovakia’s Agricultural Paying Agency in 2016 and 2017. The payments were intended for the maintenance of agricultural land, including grassland.
