Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy in a promotional photo for "Vought Rising."Amazon MGM StudiosWarning: Spoilers ahead for the series finale of The Boys. The Boys has ended its run after five seasons, but there’s more to come from the Vought Cinematic Universe, including a spinoff series starring Jensen Ackles. The series finale of The Boys was released on Wednesday, with enemies Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and Homelander (Antony Starr) delivering on their promise of scorched earth. Most of the episode focused on the titular group sneaking into the White House to take down Homelander, with Butcher ultimately defeating the megalomaniac by shoving a crowbar through his head after both characters lost their powers. Ackles’ Soldier Boy was noticeably absent from the finale, after Homelander put him back into cryosleep in episode seven. But that’s not the end for Ackles’ arrogant, macho supe. He’s set to return in Vought Rising, an upcoming show set decades before The Boys. The prequel was announced during The Boys’ panel at San Diego Comic-Con in 2024. It’s the latest project in the expanding Boys universe, following the anthology series The Boys Presents: Diabolical and the recently canceled college-set show Gen V. Another spinoff, titled The Boys: Mexico and set after the events of season five of The Boys, is also in the works. For better or for worse, the final season of The Boys has more than set up Vought Rising with plenty of references to Soldier Boy’s past, from conversations with Homelander about his relationship with Clara Vought/Liberty Bell (Aya Cash) to the inclusion of his old teammate Bombsight (Mason Dye) in episode six. Mason Dye (Teen Wolf, Stranger Things), who made his Boys debut in season five, episode six, will return as Bombsight. Elizabeth Posey (Heels) will star as Private Angel and Will Hochman (Blue Bloods) will play Torpedo. As mentioned in season five of The Boys, these five supes are the only success stories from Dr. Frederick Vought’s V1 trials and are immortal as a result.Back in 2025, The Boys creator and showrunner also teased that Thomas Godolkin, played by Ethan Slater, could appear on Vought Rising. What’s The Prequel About?Elizabeth Posey as Private Angel.Amazon MGM Studios“It’s a twisted murder mystery about the origins of Vought in the 1950s, the early exploits of Soldier Boy and the diabolical maneuvers of a supe known to fans as Stormfront, who was then going by the name Clara Vought. We cannot wait to blow your minds and trouble your souls with this salacious, grisly saga drenched in blood and Compound V,” executive producer Eric Kripke and series showrunner and executive producer Paul Grellong said in a statement at the time the show was officially announced. Kripke recently told TV Insider that Vought Rising will show a greener version of Soldier Boy, in contrast to the cocky character seen on The Boys. He also clarified that the prequel series won’t try to offer redemption or sympathy for Stormfront, a white supremacist. “She’s a Nazi, and she sucks,” Kripke told ScreenRant, adding that fans will learn more about Soldier Boy’s dynamics with Liberty Bell/Stormfront and Bombsight. When Will ’Vought Rising’ Be Released? Will Hochman as Torpedo.Amazon MGM StudiosVought Rising will debut on Prime Video sometime in 2027, and Kripke is hopeful that the show will continue beyond its freshman season. “It has a season-wide story that has a satisfying ending, but then it definitely opens a door into a new adventure and a new world, and we would love to keep it going,” Kripke told Polygon.Vought Rising will likely inherit many fans of The Boys, but Kripke told ScreenRant that audiences don’t need to watch the parent show to enjoy the prequel. “In fact, we just had some audience testing with some people who had never seen The Boys, and they liked Vought Rising on its own,” he said. All episodes of The Boys season five are streaming on Prime Video.
