A car parked on the premises of the Coimbatore International Airport caught fire on Tuesday evening. The fire was extinguished by the Airport Fire and Emergency Services. Airport sources said the fire was reported in a taxi car bearing the registration TN 47 AH 4837, which was parked in the parking yard in front of the airport terminal. Thick smoke began to billow from the car’s engine compartment and soon it went up in flames. Drivers of other taxis attempted to extinguish the fire using portable extinguishers. After being alerted by the Central Industrial Security force, the firefighting team of the airport rushed to spot and extinguished the fire within minutes.
