One of the world's top 50 golfers is taking a break from professional golf to focus on his health ahead of golf's next major.Englishman Marco Penge announced on social media following this past weekend's PGA Championship that he's going to "take some time off to get my health back to where it needs to be."Penge previously posted on X that he had been dealing with a sinus infection and vertigo symptoms and underwent an MRI on his brain and neck recently. Penge wrote at the time, "the images were great and so a few of the doubts I have had have gone away. I’m battling to get fully fit again and hopefully that’s not too far away.” But Penge struggled again at the PGA Championship, failing to make the cut for the fifth time in 12 tournaments this season on the PGA Tour. He has just one top-15 finish in 2026.“This week didn’t go to the way I wanted to but that’s golf," Penge wrote in his Instagram post on May 17. "Moving forward, I have decided that I am going to take some time off to get my health back to where it needs to be. Thank you for your support as always! I’ll be back soon!”Penge, 28, won three times on the DP World Tour last year and suffered from a viral infection at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai in November 2025, according to the Tour's website. He has been impacted by health issues since then during his first season as a dual member on the PGA Tour.Penge told the DP World Tour he hopes to return in time for next month's U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills in New York.
