POLICE have reported that a forensic report into the January 20 shooting death of Joshua Samaroo and injury of his common-law wife, Kaia Sealy, has been received and investigators are expected to approach the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for his determination.In a statement yesterday, police said as part of the investigative process, several exhibits were submitted to the Forensic Science Centre in Federation Park for analysis, and investigators were awaiting this report which was received yesterday.“The investigating officers will now approach the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, where the file will be reviewed and further guidance provided on the way forward,” the statement read.In March, Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro said the investigation into the shooting had been completed, save for just one more document before the file could be forwarded.The shooting led to several protests by ­relatives of Samaroo and friends of Sealy who called for Guevarro’s resignation and for the officers involved in the shooting to be charged.While these protests grew smaller in size in the months following the shooting, they continued nonetheless.On January 20, 31-year-old Samaroo and Sealy were shot multiple times at the corner of Bassie Street Extension and Dookie­singh Street, St Augustine, after an alleged attempt to elude police ended when their vehicle crashed into a drain.Police said they had attempted to stop the couple’s vehicle in Maloney, but they sped off, prompting the resulting chase.A CCTV video later emerged showing Samaroo holding his hands outside of the car when officers opened fire.Sealy was struck multiple times as well.The couple were taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope, where Samaroo was pronounced dead.Sealy is said to be partially paralysed, having lost her ability to walk following the incident.
