SASSA allocates R31 million monthly for disability grants, deputy Minister confirms.
The Department of Social Development says the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is spending R31 million every month on disability social grants as the government moves to strengthen social protection for vulnerable citizens.
Delivering Budget Vote 19 in the National Assembly in Cape Town on Tuesday, Deputy Minister of Social Development Ganief Hendricks said the disability grant programme remains central to the government’s commitment to inclusion and dignity.
“SASSA is spending R31 million Rand monthly on Disability Social Grants for persons with disabilities and through our interventions and communal outreach programmes with the aim of leaving no one behind,” Hendricks told Parliament.
The remarks formed part of a broader defence of the department’s social protection budget under the theme: “Strengthening Social Protection and Celebrating 20 Years of SASSA: Delivering Dignity, Enabling the Future.”
