A teenager has made a lofty piece of history after becoming the youngest Aussie to scale the world’s highest mountain. Bianca Adler from Melbourne reached the top of Mount Everest in Nepal in the early hours of Wednesday morning. At just 18, she becomes the youngest Australian to reach the 8,200m peak of the world-famous mountain.Hitting the summit at about 2.30am - 6.30am in her hometown - Miss Adler made a victorious radio call to her father Paul, who joined her for part of the expedition. In this call, she said she felt “really good, but the weather is really bad”.Having reached the peak with her guides, Pemba and Ngdu, the Year 12 student is now making her down from the treacherous heights as an Australian history-maker.Her father told ABC: “I spoke to her on the summit and she said she was very cold, it was windy, but she felt okay and they were going to take some pictures quickly and get out of there.“It’s extremely dangerous up there and you feel very nervous for your life.”Mr Adler himself is a keen mountaineer and scaled Everest himself in 2007 - and he and Miss Adler’s mother Fiona joined her part of the way up.Mrs Adler, meanwhile, became the third Australian woman to summit Everest when she completed the climb years ago.She added: “She was very determined and motivated to this. “We are extremely proud of what she’s done - just having a goal and a dream and working many years towards it. It is a very prod moment for us.”Prior to the climb, the family had spent a month in Nepal acclimatising on different mountains and visiting Camp 2, before resting for a week at Base Camp.Their quest involved a 1am departure through icefall before resting at Camp 1.They then continued on two Camp 2, where Mr Adler remained, before Miss Adler continued her climb two nights later. She is not continuing her descent. In a recording, she said: “I feel pretty awful, but I still have to go to Camp 2. I’m just resting, I’m just trying to take it one step at a time.“It’s really tough.”She takes the title of youngest Australian to summit the notorious peak from Gabby Kanizay, who reached the top at the age of 19 in 2022.Read related topics:Melbourne
