Meta has proposed offering competing AI providers limited free access to the WhatsApp API for business communications, in a bid to stave off an order from the European Commission on the matter, Reuters reported, citing unnamed people.
Facebook parent Meta reportedly submitted the order last week after the Commission said it was considering an order that would require Meta to provide competitors access to WhatsApp until it completes an ongoing investigation into the matter.
The offer would reportedly give competing providers of AI chatbots free access to the API until they hit a certain threshold of user responses, after which they would be charged.
