Kia has revealed another take on its electric van, the PV5. Working with German conversion specialist AMF-Bruns, the South Korean carmaker has developed a wheelchair-accessible version tailored for passenger transport. The model offers space for a wheelchair user as well as an attendant in the rear.wheelchair-accessible Kia PV5 WAVImage: KiaThe acronym WAV in the model designation stands for Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle. Access is provided via a side-mounted ramp, which allows wheelchair users to board the Kia PV5 WAV directly from the kerb. The system features a two-part, telescopically extendable ramp designed to adapt to various road and pavement conditions. The ramp has a maximum incline of 13.1 degrees, which reduces to 11 degrees when accessed via a 15-centimetre-high kerb.Inside the Kia PV5 WAV, there is a centrally positioned wheelchair space equipped with a securement system, and the electric van also includes seating for an attendant. In addition to this 2-0-1 seating arrangement for wheelchair use, the PV5 WAV can be configured in a 2-0-3 layout for standard passenger transport. The Kia PV5 WAV was developed as part of Kia’s ‘Made-In-Plant’ (MIP) conversion strategy. It is one of several PV5 variants manufactured either directly on Kia’s production lines or at the company’s dedicated conversion centre, according to the manufacturer. This model targets both private customers with a wheelchair user in the family and professional services such as taxi fleets and shuttle operations run by rehabilitation centres. For the development of this accessible van, Kia collaborated with AMF-Bruns, a specialist in wheelchair-accessible vehicle conversions based in Apen, Lower Saxony. AMF-Bruns had already unveiled its own wheelchair-accessible version of the Kia PV5 in November, which features a rear-mounted ramp. The Kia PV5 WAV is based on the all-electric PV5 Passenger, which has been available in Germany since November. The base version is priced from €38,290. The PV5 Passenger is the first passenger car model from Kia’s “Platform Beyond Vehicle” strategy—following the light commercial vehicle PV5 Cargo.kiapressoffice.com
