Three people were killed in a mass shooting at the Islamic Centre of San Diego in Clairemont, police confirmed.

Two suspects, aged 17 and 19 and wearing camouflage, died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds, according to Police Chief Scott Wahl.

One victim, a security guard, was among those found outside the mosque as officers surrounded the grounds during the response.

The FBI is assisting and the case is being treated “as a hate crime until it's not,” Mr Wahl said.
