By Milad Hassandarvish Tuesday, 19 May 2026 5:04 PM MYT KUALA LUMPUR, May 19 — Rapid Rail has initiated a comprehensive inspection of its train fleet in response to the service disruption on the Kelana Jaya LRT line that occurred yesterday due to damage to a train component at the Kelana Jaya station. In a statement, the company confirmed that its engineering team promptly commenced thorough checks throughout the fleet to verify the safe and optimal functioning of all linear induction motor (LIM) systems. The initial assessment indicated that the disruption was triggered by a damaged LIM cover on train number 92 while stationed at the Kelana Jaya platform. “This damage rendered the train immobile, affecting our operations and timetable. If the train had been moved, it could have resulted in more severe consequences such as damage to the signaling system and the platform intrusion emergency stop (Pies) mechanism along the track,” the statement read. The Pies system is a critical safety feature designed to detect any objects or passengers on the track, helping to prevent accidents at service stations in the Kelana Jaya Line network. In response to the incident, Rapid Rail has mobilised its engineering team to conduct a comprehensive fleet-wide inspection to ensure that all Linear Induction Motors are functioning at optimal and safe conditions.“We are committed to taking all necessary steps to guarantee the safety and reliability of our services,” reads the statement. Moreover, the company is undertaking a thorough root cause analysis that will guide the establishment of long-term mitigation measures, including enhancements to systems and improvements in operating procedures.Rapid Rail said it sincerely apologises to all passengers affected by this disruption and appreciates the public’s patience and understanding during this time. The operator reassured the community that safety, reliability, and smooth operations of rail public transport services will remain their top priorities.
