Rescue teams in Germany are continuing an urgent search for three missing people, including a Bulgarian national, after a guesthouse collapsed following a gas explosion in the old town of Görlitz.

According to German media reports, the incident occurred on Monday afternoon when the building suddenly gave way after an explosion. The missing include a 48-year-old Bulgarian man, who also holds German citizenship, along with two women aged 25 and 26. Initial reports had listed five people as missing, but two Polish installers who were due at the site are now believed to have avoided the disaster.

Witness accounts and media descriptions paint a scene of destruction, with one report noting, “Debris everywhere and one agonizing question: Are there still people under this pile of rubble?” Emergency crews have been working carefully through the wreckage due to an ongoing gas leak in the area.

Search dogs deployed by rescue teams have so far not indicated any signs of life beneath the collapsed structure, according to reports from German outlets. Firefighters and emergency workers are forced to rely on manual tools, as heavy machinery cannot be used because of the risk of ignition. A rescuer warned, “One spark and there could be a second explosion,” as the gas supply has not yet been secured.
