Patients and specialist services are returning to Paarl Hospital months earlier than expected after a January fire damaged sections of the facility and forced the temporary relocation of several healthcare services.
The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness said major reconstruction work at the hospital has been completed within six months, despite initial estimates that repairs could take up to a year.
The hospital, which serves communities across the Cape Winelands, continued operating while infrastructure teams carried out repairs following the fire earlier this year.
Western Cape MEC for Health and Wellness Mireille Wenger said the restoration timeline had been significantly reduced through the coordinated efforts of healthcare workers, contractors, hospital management, and departmental infrastructure teams.
