After months of speculation and analyses, the official announcements for the establishment of two new parties, one by former prime minister Alexis Tsipras and another by the former president of the Tempe victims’ relatives’ association Maria Karystianou, will take place in the coming days, on the 26th and 21st of the month, respectively.
According to all indications, their entrance in the political arena will influence the present power dynamics ahead of the next elections that will be held, based on the prime minister’s declarations, in early 2027, although there are those who insist that political developments may force an early election this fall.
In any case, the question that arises is to what extent and in what direction the two new formations will shake up the current political scene and impact everyone’s electoral calculations.
Tsipras will shuffle the deck in the center-left, where he will assume a leading role, aiming for second place and for this he will compete with PASOK.
If after the elections it proves impossible to form a government, the outcome of this tug-of-war within the broader center-left may set in motion developments in view of a possible new resort to the ballot boxes a few weeks later.
