The appeal was made in a viral video obtained by SaharaReporters, where one of the local hunters narrated in Yoruba how members of the local vigilante and hunting groups had entered the forest in search of the abductees but suffered deadly attacks from the gunmen.

Residents and local hunters in communities around the Old Oyo National Park in Oyo State have cried out to Governor Seyi Makinde for urgent intervention following the abduction of 32 schoolchildren, teachers and a school mistress by suspected terrorists operating inside the forest.

The appeal was made in a viral video obtained by SaharaReporters, where one of the local hunters narrated in Yoruba how members of the local vigilante and hunting groups had entered the forest in search of the abductees but suffered deadly attacks from the gunmen.

According to the hunter, at least three local rescuers have been killed during attempts to locate and rescue the kidnapped victims inside the Old Oyo National Park.

“We went into the bush to rescue the abductees, but the bandits killed two of our men two days ago and another one yesterday,” the hunter lamented while describing the dangerous situation inside the forest.
