One of the girls later died in hospital from the injuries she sustained. The prosecutor in the case had called on the court to find the 45-year-old male defendant guilty of negligent homicide, negligent bodily injury, and endangering traffic safety. However, the court found the man guilty only on the lesser charge of endangering traffic safety and sentenced him to pay 40 income-linked day-fines.During the trial, the court heard that the e-scooter was travelling at about 10 kilometres per hour when the accident occurred, based on data supplied by the scooter rental firm.According to the defence, the man was driving at approximately 35 kilometers per hour. The speed limit on the road is 50 kilometers per hour.He told the court that he did not see the scooter or the girls until they were directly in front of him. The situation happened so fast, he said, that he did not have time to brake before the collision. The court's verdict is not yet legally binding, meaning that it can be appealed to a higher court.
