Farzad Talakesh, the Secretary-General of the Iran Poultry Federation, has announced a significant drop in chicken consumption across the country, increasing pressure on the product’s production and distribution chain.
In an interview with Dideban Iran, Farzad Talakesh stated that chicken consumption in the country has plummeted by approximately 25% due to the diminishing purchasing power of households and inflationary pressures.
According to him, a decline in chick placement during March and April disrupted the balance of supply and demand in the market, which in turn reduced the volume of chicken entering the market. He added that due to a shortage of liquidity, producers are forced to harvest and send chickens to the market at lower weights.
Talakesh also pointed to financial hurdles within the feed supply chain, noting that poultry farmers and livestock feed importers are facing a severe liquidity crisis, an issue he stated has directly impacted the production pipeline.
He added that monthly chicken production in the country has fallen from around 260,000 tons last year to approximately 210,000 tons.
